Description
EggBird is a single-player puzzle-platform video game developed by independent studio Feral Logic and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game is set in a monochrome, hand-drawn world where the player controls a small, flightless bird named Pip. The core narrative involves Pip attempting to reach a mythical floating egg at the top of a vertical, procedurally generated tower. The environment is composed of crumbling stone platforms, rotating gears, and fragile wooden beams. The game’s visual style is characterized by stark black-and-white line art with occasional red highlights on interactive objects. Sound design relies on ambient wind, creaking wood, and a sparse, minimalist piano score. The game has no text or dialogue; all story elements are conveyed through environmental changes and the bird’s animations. EggBird is notable for its lack of a traditional health system; the bird dies instantly upon falling off a platform or touching certain hazards, requiring the player to restart from the last checkpoint. The game contains 120 distinct levels, each with a unique layout and set of obstacles.
Instructions
Gameplay in EggBird is based on precise timing and spatial awareness. The player controls Pip using a keyboard or touchscreen. On a keyboard, the left and right arrow keys move the bird horizontally. The up arrow key or the spacebar initiates a jump. Holding the jump key allows Pip to perform a short glide, reducing the rate of descent. On a touchscreen, a virtual joystick on the left side controls horizontal movement, and a tap on the right side triggers a jump. A longer press on the jump button activates the glide. The primary objective in each level is to reach a glowing red egg located at the top of the screen. The player must navigate moving platforms, avoid spikes, and time jumps to cross gaps. Certain levels introduce wind currents that push the bird horizontally or vertically. Later levels include rotating platforms that change angle over time and fragile surfaces that collapse after a single use. The game features a checkpoint system: small white feathers placed at intervals within a level. Upon death, the player respawns at the last touched feather. There is no score, timer, or collectible items. The only interface elements are a pause button in the top-left corner and a counter showing the current level number. The game does not include a tutorial; all mechanics are learned through trial and error.
