Description
Doroppuboru is a single-player puzzle video game developed by the Japanese studio Nekomata Games and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game is set in a minimalist, monochromatic world where the player controls a small, spherical character named a "Doroppu." The core objective involves navigating a series of vertical shaft-like levels filled with floating platforms, moving obstacles, and gravity-altering zones. The game's title is a portmanteau of the Japanese words "doroppu" (drop) and "boru" (ball), directly referencing its primary mechanic: the controlled descent of the ball through each stage. Each level is designed as a single-screen puzzle, requiring the player to reach a designated exit portal. The visual style employs stark black-and-white line art with occasional red highlights for interactive elements. The soundtrack consists of ambient electronic tones that shift in pitch based on the player's vertical velocity. The game contains 120 levels across six themed worlds, each introducing a new environmental hazard or mechanic, such as anti-gravity fields, temporary platforms, and directional wind currents. No narrative or character backstory is provided; the game focuses entirely on spatial reasoning and timing-based challenges.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are based on a single input method: tapping or clicking. The player character, the Doroppu, is subject to a constant downward gravitational pull. The player initiates a jump by tapping the screen or pressing the primary mouse button. The jump height is fixed; the player cannot control the trajectory or duration of the jump. The Doroppu will automatically adhere to any solid surface it contacts, including walls and ceilings, allowing it to rest or prepare for the next jump. Movement across surfaces is not directly controlled; the ball remains stationary until the player taps again to jump. The direction of the jump is determined by the orientation of the surface the Doroppu is currently attached to. For example, if attached to a ceiling, a tap will cause the ball to drop downward. If attached to a vertical wall, a tap will launch the ball horizontally away from that wall. The player must use this mechanic to navigate gaps, avoid spikes, and time jumps to land on moving platforms. The game provides no on-screen buttons or joysticks; all interaction is through the single tap. A level is completed when the Doroppu makes contact with the exit portal. Failure occurs upon contact with spikes or falling off the bottom of the screen, which resets the level instantly. No lives or continues are present.
