Description

Don Kong Fury is a 1994 side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Rare for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game was released exclusively in North America and is a direct sequel to the 1994 arcade title Donkey Kong Country, though it adopts a distinct narrative and visual style. The story follows the gorilla Don Kong as he attempts to recover a collection of golden bananas stolen by the reptilian antagonist King K. Rool and his Kremling army. The game is set across eight themed worlds, including jungles, caves, factories, and ice caverns, each containing multiple levels. The graphics utilize pre-rendered 3D models converted into 2D sprites, a technique Rare pioneered in the Donkey Kong Country series. The soundtrack was composed by David Wise and features a mix of ambient and rhythmic tracks. Don Kong Fury received positive reviews for its challenging level design and smooth animation, though it was noted for its high difficulty curve. The game sold approximately 1.5 million copies worldwide.

Instructions

Gameplay in Don Kong Fury is controlled using the Super Nintendo controller. The directional pad moves Don Kong left or right and allows crouching by pressing down. The A button performs a jump, with the height and distance determined by how long the button is held. The B button executes a roll attack, which can defeat enemies and break certain obstacles. The X button activates a barrel throw when Don Kong is holding a barrel, which can be used to hit distant enemies or switches. The Y button performs a ground pound, which can stun nearby enemies and activate floor-based mechanisms. The L and R buttons are not used. Don Kong has a health meter represented by three hearts; contact with an enemy or hazard reduces health by one heart, and collecting a banana restores one heart. The game features a lives system, with an extra life awarded every 100 bananas collected. Checkpoints are marked by save barrels, which allow the player to continue from that point after losing all lives. The objective of each level is to reach the end flag, avoiding traps and defeating enemies. Boss battles occur at the end of each world and require pattern recognition to defeat. The game includes a two-player mode where players alternate turns.
