Description

Dice Merge Challenges is a puzzle-strategy video game developed by a small independent studio, released in 2023 for mobile platforms (iOS and Android). The core mechanic involves merging identical dice to create higher-value dice, which then unlock new abilities or progress through levels. The game presents a grid-based board where players must strategically combine dice to achieve specific objectives, such as reaching a target sum or clearing a set number of tiles. Each die displays a number from one to six, and merging two dice of the same value produces a single die with a value one higher, up to a maximum of twelve. The game features a minimalist visual design with flat colors and simple animations, focusing on clear readability of dice values. Levels are procedurally generated, offering a new layout each playthrough, and a scoring system tracks the efficiency of merges. No narrative or character elements are present; the game is purely mechanical, emphasizing logical planning and spatial reasoning.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are executed entirely through touch input on mobile devices. The player interacts with a grid of dice, typically 6x6 or 8x8 tiles. To merge two dice, the player taps one die to select it, then taps an adjacent die of the same value. The two dice disappear, and a new die with a value increased by one appears in the location of the second tapped die. If no adjacent merge is possible, the player can drag a die to an empty adjacent tile to reposition it. A new die is added to the board after each merge or move, drawn from a random pool of values one through four. The game ends when the grid is full and no merges are possible. Controls include a single-tap to select, a second tap to merge or move, and a swipe gesture to quickly drag a die to a distant empty tile if a path exists. An undo button is available for the last action, limited to three uses per level. The interface displays a current score, a target score for level completion, and a counter for remaining moves or turns, depending on the game mode. No keyboard or controller support is provided.
