Description

Deep Fishing is a simulation video game developed by Nautical Byte Studios and released in 2021 for personal computers and console platforms. The game places the player in the role of a commercial fishing vessel operator in a procedurally generated archipelago. The primary objective is to locate, catch, and sell various species of fish while managing the vessel’s fuel, equipment durability, and cargo capacity. The game world features dynamic weather systems, day-night cycles, and seasonal migration patterns for fish populations. The archipelago is divided into distinct ecological zones, each hosting different fish species with unique behaviors and depths. The player character operates from a single home port, where upgrades to the boat, fishing gear, and storage can be purchased using currency earned from catches. The game includes a minimal narrative framework involving a fictional maritime research organization that provides optional side objectives. No multiplayer or competitive modes are present; the experience is entirely single-player. The visual style employs a low-poly aesthetic with a muted color palette, emphasizing functional clarity over realism. Sound design focuses on ambient environmental audio, including water sounds, engine hum, and seabird calls. The game does not include a tutorial; all mechanics are learned through contextual prompts and experimentation.

Instructions

Gameplay is controlled through a third-person perspective behind the vessel. The left analog stick or W, A, S, D keys steer the boat, while the right analog stick or mouse controls a free-look camera. The boat’s engine speed is adjusted with the R1/RB button or the Shift key for acceleration, and L1/LB or the Ctrl key for deceleration. Fishing is initiated by approaching a visible fish school or a marked fishing spot on the sonar map. The player presses the X/A button or the Spacebar to deploy the fishing line or net. A mini-game then activates: a circular gauge appears on screen, representing tension on the line. The player must keep a moving indicator within a highlighted zone by tapping the Square/X button or the E key. Failure causes the fish to escape or the line to break. Once caught, fish are automatically stored in the hold. The sonar map is accessed by pressing the Triangle/Y button or the M key, showing fish density, depth contours, and weather patterns. The inventory and upgrade menu is opened with the Options/Start button or the Tab key. Fuel consumption is displayed as a percentage on the HUD; refueling is only possible at the home port. Equipment degradation is shown via a color-coded icon; repairs are performed at the port workshop. The game saves automatically upon returning to port. No manual save function exists.
