Description

Daddy Escape is a single-player puzzle-platform video game developed by independent studio Vivid Games and released in 2021. The game is available on Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms. The narrative centers on a young child who must navigate a series of increasingly complex household environments to locate and rescue a father figure who has been mysteriously trapped or hidden within the home. The setting is a stylized, cartoonish representation of a suburban house, with each level representing a different room or area such as the kitchen, basement, attic, or backyard. The core objective is to solve environmental puzzles, manipulate objects, and avoid obstacles to progress. The game employs a non-linear level structure, allowing players to revisit completed areas to find hidden collectibles and alternative routes. The visual style uses bright, saturated colors and simple geometric shapes, with character designs that are exaggerated and expressive. The soundtrack consists of ambient, low-fidelity electronic music that changes dynamically based on the player’s proximity to hazards or secrets. The game does not feature dialogue or text-based storytelling; all narrative elements are conveyed through environmental cues, such as photographs, notes, and rearranged furniture. The game’s difficulty curve is moderate, with later levels introducing timed sequences and multi-step logic puzzles. Daddy Escape received mixed reviews, with praise for its art direction and puzzle design, but criticism for its short playtime and lack of replayability.

Instructions

Gameplay is controlled through a standard keyboard and mouse or touchscreen interface. The player character moves using the W, A, S, D keys or the directional arrow keys. The spacebar performs a jump. The mouse cursor is used to interact with objects; clicking on an object highlights it and triggers an action, such as pushing a box, opening a drawer, or activating a switch. The left mouse button is the primary interaction key, while the right mouse button cancels an action or closes an inventory screen. The inventory is accessed by pressing the I key. Items collected from the environment are stored in a grid-based inventory bar at the bottom of the screen. To use an item, the player selects it with the mouse and then clicks on a target object in the game world. The game includes a hint system activated by pressing the H key, which highlights the next interactive object in the current room. The camera is fixed in a 2.5D perspective, with no manual camera control. The player can pause the game by pressing the Escape key, which brings up a menu for saving, loading, adjusting volume, and quitting. The game autosaves at the start of each new room. There is no health bar or lives system; failure occurs only when the player character is caught by a moving hazard or fails a timed puzzle, resulting in a restart from the last checkpoint. The controls are responsive and require precise timing for certain jumps and object placements.
