Description
Cubes Crush is a tile-matching puzzle video game developed by the independent studio PixelForge Games and released on multiple digital platforms in 2023. The game is set within a three-dimensional grid composed of uniformly sized, colored cubes. The primary objective is to clear the grid by selecting and removing groups of adjacent cubes that share the same color. The game features a minimalist visual aesthetic, with a neutral gray background and cubes rendered in a palette of six distinct colors: red, blue, green, yellow, purple, and orange. No narrative or character elements are present; the experience is purely abstract and focused on spatial reasoning and pattern recognition. The grid size is fixed at 8x8x8 layers, creating a total of 512 cubes at the start of each level. The game includes a scoring system based on the number of cubes removed in a single action, with larger groups yielding higher point values. A timer is not present, allowing unrestricted deliberation. The game ends when no further valid moves exist on the grid.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are executed entirely through a mouse or touch input. The player interacts with the three-dimensional grid by rotating the view. Rotation is performed by clicking and dragging the cursor across the screen, which rotates the entire grid along the X and Y axes. Zooming is achieved by scrolling the mouse wheel or using a pinch gesture on touch devices. To select a group of cubes, the player clicks on a single cube. The game then automatically highlights all cubes of the same color that are orthogonally adjacent (sharing a face, not an edge or corner) to the selected cube. The minimum group size required for removal is two cubes. Once a group is highlighted, the player clicks the highlighted area again to confirm removal. The cubes vanish, and any cubes above the removed space fall downward due to gravity, filling the empty positions. Cubes do not shift horizontally or vertically beyond the gravity effect. The player may also deselect a highlighted group by clicking on an empty area of the grid. No undo function is provided. The interface displays a current score counter, a high score tracker, and a move counter at the top of the screen. No power-ups, special cubes, or time-based mechanics are present. The game concludes when no group of two or more adjacent cubes of the same color remains on the grid.
