Colored Rings

Colored Rings is a puzzle video game developed by independent studio Luminova Games and released in 2022 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game presents a minimalist visual aesthetic centered on a circular playing field composed of concentric rings. Each ring is segmented into a variable number of arcs, and each arc is assigned one of several primary colors. The objective is to rotate the rings so that all arcs of the same color align into continuous, unbroken bands across the entire circle. The game features a progression system with over one hundred levels, each introducing new ring configurations, additional colors, and locked segments that cannot be rotated. A scoring system awards points based on the number of moves taken to complete a level, with fewer moves yielding a higher score. The game includes a hint system that highlights the correct rotation direction for one ring per use, with a limited number of hints available per session. Colored Rings does not contain a narrative or characters; its focus is purely on spatial reasoning and pattern recognition.

Gameplay and controls are based entirely on touch or mouse input. The player interacts with the circular playing field by selecting a ring. On a touchscreen device, the player taps and drags a finger along the circumference of a ring to rotate it clockwise or counterclockwise. On a personal computer, the player clicks on a ring and drags the mouse in the desired direction of rotation. Each ring rotates independently of the others. The game registers a single move each time a ring is rotated by one segment position. The interface displays a move counter in the upper left corner of the screen, a level number in the upper center, and a pause button in the upper right corner. A color key is shown at the bottom of the screen, indicating which colors are present in the current level. The player completes a level when all arcs of each color form a single, contiguous band that spans the entire circle. Upon completion, a summary screen displays the number of moves used, the star rating (one to three stars based on move efficiency), and options to replay the level or proceed to the next. The game does not include a time limit, allowing unlimited deliberation for each puzzle.
