Description

Color Mix is a digital puzzle game released in 2023 by independent developer Studio Prism. The game is built around the principles of additive and subtractive color theory, challenging players to combine primary colors to produce specific target hues. The visual design employs a minimalist interface with a white background and a palette of red, blue, yellow, green, cyan, magenta, and black. Each level presents a single target color swatch, and the player must achieve an exact match by mixing virtual paints or lights. The game contains 150 levels, progressing from simple two-color combinations to complex mixtures involving transparency, opacity, and light intensity. A color wheel and a numerical RGB readout are provided for precision. The game does not include a timer or scoring system, focusing instead on logical deduction and trial-and-error learning. The soundtrack consists of ambient electronic tones that shift in pitch based on the color being mixed.

Instructions

The player interacts with the game using a mouse or touch input. The main screen displays a mixing area, a palette of available colors, and a target color swatch. To mix colors, the player clicks on a color from the palette and drags it into the mixing area. Each color added increases the mixture’s volume, represented by a rising liquid level in a beaker icon. The player can adjust the proportion of each color by clicking the plus or minus buttons next to the color’s name in the palette, which increments or decrements the amount by 10%. The current mixture is displayed in a preview swatch adjacent to the mixing area. To test the mixture against the target, the player clicks the "Match" button. If the colors match within a tolerance of 5% RGB difference, the level is completed. If not, the player receives a percentage score indicating how close the mixture is to the target. The player can reset the mixing area to empty by clicking the "Clear" button. Undo and redo functions are available via keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y. The game also includes a "Hint" button that highlights the primary colors required for the target, but this disables the level’s completion reward. Navigation between levels is done through a grid-based level select screen accessible from the pause menu.
