Description

Color Bubbles Ultra is a puzzle video game released in 2023 by independent developer Nimbus Interactive. The game is a direct sequel to the 2019 title Color Bubbles, expanding upon its core mechanics with enhanced visual effects and additional game modes. The objective of the game is to clear a grid of colored bubbles by matching three or more of the same color. The grid is populated at the start of each level with a fixed arrangement of bubbles, and the player is provided with a queue of bubbles to fire from the bottom of the screen. The game features a single-player campaign with 120 levels, a time-attack mode, and an endless mode. The visual presentation utilizes a high-contrast color palette and particle effects for bubble collisions. The game is available on Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms via the App Store and Google Play. The soundtrack consists of ambient electronic music composed by artist Lena Voss. The game does not include any narrative or character elements; the focus is entirely on puzzle-solving and score optimization. The difficulty curve increases through the introduction of larger grids, more bubble colors, and obstacles such as locked bubbles that require multiple hits to remove. The game tracks player statistics including total bubbles popped, highest score, and completion time for each level.

Instructions

The player controls a targeting reticle at the bottom of the screen using a mouse or touch input. A bubble from the queue is displayed in the firing chamber. The player moves the reticle horizontally to aim and clicks or taps to fire the bubble upward toward the grid. The fired bubble travels in a straight line until it contacts a stationary bubble or the top boundary of the play area. Upon contact, the bubble locks into the nearest grid position. If three or more bubbles of the same color are connected after placement, they are removed from the grid. Any bubbles not connected to the top of the grid after a removal fall and are also cleared. The player is awarded points for each bubble removed, with bonus points for chain reactions. The queue displays the next bubble to be fired. The player can swap the current bubble with the next bubble in the queue by pressing the spacebar or a designated on-screen button. The game ends when any bubble in the grid descends below a horizontal line near the bottom of the screen. In time-attack mode, a timer counts down from 60 seconds, and the game ends when the timer reaches zero. The player can pause the game at any time by pressing the Escape key or the pause button. The settings menu allows adjustment of sound volume, screen resolution, and control sensitivity.
