ChromaGate is a first-person puzzle-platformer developed by independent studio Prism Interactive, released in 2023 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set within a monolithic, geometrically shifting structure known as the ChromaGate, a facility built to harness the energy of a dying star. The player assumes the role of a lone technician, designated Operator-7, who must navigate the facility’s collapsing corridors to stabilize its core. The environment is defined by a monochromatic palette that shifts between primary colors—red, blue, and green—as the player progresses. Each color corresponds to a specific physical property of the environment: red zones exhibit increased gravity, blue zones reduce friction, and green zones allow objects to phase through solid matter. Instructions
Gameplay in ChromaGate is centered on manipulating the color state of the environment to solve spatial puzzles and traverse obstacles. The player character moves using standard first-person controls: the left analog stick or W, A, S, D keys control movement, while the right analog stick or mouse controls camera orientation. The jump action is mapped to the space bar or A button. The core mechanic involves a color-shifting device, the Prism Gauntlet, which the player activates by pressing the left mouse button or right trigger. This device cycles the local environment through red, blue, and green states, altering physics properties as described. The player must observe the color of a given area’s ambient light to determine which state is active. Interactive objects, such as movable crates and pressure plates, are color-coded and only respond to the corresponding active state. For example, a blue crate can only be pushed across a blue-friction floor. The player can also use the Prism Gauntlet to project a temporary color field onto specific surfaces by aiming and pressing the right mouse button or left bumper. This field lasts for ten seconds and can be used to create temporary platforms or alter the behavior of enemy constructs, which are color-sensitive drones that patrol the facility. The interface displays a color wheel in the lower-left corner, indicating the current active state and the cooldown timer for the projection ability. Health is represented by a segmented bar; damage is taken from contact with hostile drones or falling into color-incompatible zones. Checkpoints are marked by white light pillars that save progress.
