Description
Catch The Cat Online is a multiplayer browser-based game developed by an independent studio, released in 2021. The game is hosted on a dedicated website and requires no download or installation. It is categorized as a casual action game with elements of strategy and pursuit. The core objective involves a single player attempting to capture a cat avatar controlled by another player within a confined, procedurally generated 2D arena. The arena features static obstacles such as walls and movable objects like boxes. The cat player’s goal is to evade capture for a set duration, typically 120 seconds. The game supports up to eight players per session, with one designated as the catcher and the rest as cats. Matches are timed, and the catcher wins by tagging a cat, while cats win if the timer expires. The game uses a simple color palette and low-polygon art style to ensure smooth performance on low-end devices. Leaderboards track win-loss ratios for both roles. The game is free-to-play with optional cosmetic microtransactions for cat skins and arena themes. No personal data is collected beyond a username and session ID.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are executed entirely through keyboard and mouse inputs. The catcher player uses the W, A, S, D keys to move the avatar up, left, down, and right respectively. The spacebar initiates a short-range dash ability, which has a cooldown of five seconds. The left mouse button performs a tagging action when the catcher avatar is within one tile of a cat avatar. Cat players use the same W, A, S, D keys for movement but have a different ability: pressing the E key activates a temporary speed boost lasting three seconds with a ten-second cooldown. Cats can also interact with movable objects by pressing the F key to push them, creating barriers. The game interface displays a timer at the top center of the screen, a mini-map in the top-right corner showing all player positions, and a cooldown indicator for abilities below the avatar. The escape key pauses the game and opens a menu to adjust volume, graphics quality, or quit the match. The mouse cursor is used to select menu options and to aim the dash direction for the catcher. No controller support is available. The game automatically assigns roles at the start of each round based on a random selection algorithm.
