Description

Casual Trading is a digital simulation game developed by independent studio Pixel Harbor Games, released in 2022 for personal computers and mobile platforms. The game places the player in the role of a small-scale merchant operating within a procedurally generated market economy. The primary objective is to accumulate wealth by buying and selling a variety of goods, ranging from raw materials like wood and ore to finished products such as furniture and electronics. The game world consists of multiple interconnected towns, each with fluctuating supply and demand curves influenced by simulated events, seasonal cycles, and random occurrences. The visual presentation employs a minimalist, isometric art style with muted color palettes, emphasizing clarity of information over graphical fidelity. The game does not feature a narrative campaign or character progression; instead, it focuses on open-ended economic gameplay where success is measured by net worth and market share. The simulation runs on a real-time clock, with market prices updating every in-game hour. Casual Trading is designed to be played in short sessions, with no penalties for pausing or saving at any point. The game includes a basic tutorial that explains core concepts but does not enforce a linear learning path.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are centered on a point-and-click interface. The player navigates the game map by clicking on town icons or using the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Each town has a market screen that displays current buy and sell prices for all available goods, sorted by category. To purchase an item, the player clicks the "Buy" button next to the desired good, then adjusts the quantity using a slider or by typing a number. The same process applies to selling, with a "Sell" button on the player's inventory screen. The inventory is located in a sidebar panel, showing item names, quantities, and total weight. Weight is a limiting factor; the player's cart has a maximum capacity, displayed as a progress bar. Movement between towns is executed by clicking a destination on the map, which triggers a travel timer. During travel, the player cannot trade but can view market data from previously visited towns. The game also includes a simple trading log that records all completed transactions, accessible via a "History" tab. Keyboard shortcuts are available: the "M" key opens the map, "I" opens the inventory, and "Space" pauses the game clock. The interface does not support drag-and-drop; all actions require explicit clicks. There is no multiplayer component; the game is strictly single-player. The controls are designed to be responsive and require no more than two mouse clicks to complete any single trade action.
