Description

Blocks Merge is a puzzle video game in which the primary objective is to combine colored block elements on a grid to create larger, higher-value blocks. The game typically presents a square or rectangular playing field, often with a fixed number of cells. Blocks appear in various shapes, usually squares or rectangles, and are assigned a numerical value or a distinct color that indicates their tier. The core mechanic involves dragging or tapping to place a block onto the grid. When two or more blocks of the same value or color are placed adjacent to each other, they merge into a single block of the next tier. This process can trigger chain reactions, where newly formed blocks subsequently merge with neighboring identical blocks. The game continues until the grid becomes completely filled with blocks that cannot be merged, at which point the session ends. Scoring is based on the value of blocks merged, with higher-tier blocks yielding more points. Some versions include a score multiplier for consecutive merges or for clearing entire rows or columns. The game is designed for single-player sessions and is available on mobile platforms and web browsers.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are executed through a touchscreen or mouse interface. The player is presented with a grid and a preview of the next block to be placed. To place a block, the player taps or clicks on an empty cell on the grid. The block then appears in that location. If the block is a shape larger than a single cell, such as a 2x2 square, the player must select a cell that serves as the anchor point, and the shape occupies the corresponding adjacent cells. After placement, the game automatically checks for any groups of three or more identical blocks that are orthogonally adjacent. These groups are immediately removed from the grid, and a single block of the next higher tier appears in the location of the merge. If this new block creates another group of identical blocks, the chain merge proceeds automatically. The player cannot undo a placement. The game provides a score counter and a display of the current level or highest block tier achieved. Some versions include a "hold" slot to store one block for later use, or a "shuffle" button to rearrange upcoming blocks. The session ends when no empty cells remain on the grid and no merges are possible. The final score is recorded, and the player may restart or view a leaderboard.
