Description

Block Tree is a single-player puzzle video game developed by independent studio Noda Logic and released in 2023 for personal computers and mobile devices. The game presents a three-dimensional, isometric environment centered on a single, procedurally generated tree composed of interlocking, colored blocks. The objective is to dismantle the tree by removing blocks according to a set of logical rules. Each block is assigned a color and a number. The number indicates the quantity of adjacent blocks of the same color that must be removed simultaneously for the block to be eligible for removal. Adjacency is defined as sharing a full face, not an edge or corner. The tree structure is dynamic; removing a block causes any blocks above it to fall downward, potentially creating new adjacencies and altering the puzzle state. The game features a finite number of levels, each with a unique tree configuration and a target number of moves for a perfect score. A move counter and a timer are displayed on the interface. The game ends when all blocks are removed from the tree, or when no further legal removals are possible, resulting in a failure state.

Instructions

Gameplay and controls are executed through a point-and-click interface on personal computers, or via touch input on mobile devices. The player selects a block by clicking or tapping on it. A block is highlighted when selected. The player then confirms the removal by clicking or tapping a second time on the same block. A block can only be removed if it meets the adjacency rule: the number displayed on the block must equal the total number of neighboring blocks of the same color that are also selected for removal. The game automatically calculates and displays valid groups. If a selected block does not meet the condition, the removal command is ignored. After a successful removal, the affected blocks vanish, and the remaining blocks above the removed space fall straight down one unit, stacking on the blocks below. This gravitational effect can create new groups of same-colored blocks. The player can rotate the camera view by dragging the screen or using the arrow keys to inspect the tree from all angles. A zoom function is available via scroll wheel or pinch gesture. The game provides an undo button that reverses the last move, limited to a single step. A restart button resets the level to its initial state. The interface also includes a pause menu and a level select screen. No keyboard shortcuts beyond camera controls are implemented.
