Description

Batrix is a single-player puzzle-action game developed by independent studio Null Vector and released in 2023. The game is set within a sterile, monochromatic laboratory environment. The player controls a small, spherical robot designated Unit-7. The primary objective is to navigate a series of interconnected chambers, each containing a central processing core. The core emits a fluctuating energy field that must be stabilized. The game’s narrative is delivered through fragmented data logs and environmental storytelling, revealing that the laboratory was once a research facility for a failed energy project known as the Batrix Protocol. The visual aesthetic is defined by sharp geometric shapes, stark lighting, and a limited color palette of white, grey, and a single pulsing blue light source. The sound design relies on ambient hums, metallic clicks, and low-frequency drones. The game contains 40 levels, divided into four sectors. There is no multiplayer component. The game is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

Instructions

Gameplay in Batrix is governed by two primary mechanics: energy manipulation and spatial navigation. The player controls Unit-7 using a keyboard and mouse. The W, A, S, and D keys move the robot forward, left, backward, and right relative to its current orientation. The mouse controls the robot’s camera view, allowing the player to look around the environment. The left mouse button activates a tractor beam that can pull small, floating energy nodes toward the robot. The right mouse button activates a repulsor field that pushes energy nodes away. The central processing core in each chamber requires a specific balance of energy input. The player must collect energy nodes from designated dispensers and then guide them into the core’s intake ports. The core’s stability is indicated by a gauge on the robot’s HUD. If the gauge reaches zero or maximum, the core destabilizes, causing a level reset. Environmental hazards include moving laser grids, collapsing floor panels, and energy-draining fields. The spacebar activates a temporary shield that protects Unit-7 from one instance of damage. The E key interacts with terminals and data logs. The ESC key pauses the game and opens the menu. The game does not feature a jump or sprint function. Progression is linear; completing a level unlocks the next.
