Astral: Ultimate Tic Tac Toe is a digital strategy game released in 2023, developed by independent studio Nimbus Games. The game is a complex, multi-layered variant of the classic Tic Tac Toe, designed for two players. It expands the traditional 3x3 grid into a 9x9 macro-board composed of nine individual 3x3 micro-boards. The objective is to win three micro-boards in a row on the macro-board, while simultaneously managing the tactical state of each micro-board. The game features a minimalist, geometric visual style with a dark, space-themed aesthetic. No single-player campaign is included; the game is exclusively focused on local and online multiplayer matches. A ranked matchmaking system and a replay viewer are integrated. The game is available on Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.

Gameplay and controls are governed by a single, deterministic rule: the position a player marks on a micro-board determines which micro-board the opponent must play on next. For example, if Player X places a mark in the top-left cell of a micro-board, Player O must then play in the top-left micro-board of the macro-board. If a player is sent to a micro-board that is already fully occupied or won, that player may place their mark on any unoccupied cell on any other micro-board. A micro-board is won when a player achieves three marks in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) within that board. The macro-board is won when a player wins three micro-boards in a row. The game ends in a draw if all micro-boards are filled without a macro-board winner. Controls are executed via mouse or touch input. A left-click or tap on an empty cell within the designated micro-board places the player’s mark. A highlighted border indicates the active micro-board where the current player must play. A turn timer of 30 seconds is enforced in ranked matches. Keyboard shortcuts are available: the 'Z' key undoes the last move in local matches, and the 'R' key restarts the game.
