Description
Air Space Shooter is a fixed-view, vertical-scrolling arcade-style video game developed by independent studio Digital Vanguard and released for personal computers in 2023. The game is set in a fictional near-future scenario where Earth’s orbital defense network has been compromised by an unidentified hostile force. The player assumes control of a single-seat aerospace fighter craft tasked with intercepting waves of enemy spacecraft, satellites, and kinetic projectiles across multiple atmospheric and exoatmospheric levels. The visual presentation employs a pixel-art aesthetic with a muted color palette dominated by deep blues, grays, and neon accents. The game features a continuous, non-linear difficulty curve that escalates based on player performance and stage progression. No narrative cutscenes or dialogue are present; story elements are conveyed solely through brief mission briefings and environmental cues. The soundtrack consists of synthesized electronic compositions that loop during gameplay. The game includes a local leaderboard system that records high scores per session. No multiplayer or online connectivity options are available. The game is distributed as a digital download and requires a keyboard or a compatible game controller for input.
Instructions
Gameplay and controls are structured around a single-screen playfield where the player’s craft is confined to the lower third of the display. The player moves the craft horizontally and vertically using the arrow keys or the left analog stick on a controller. The primary weapon is fired by pressing the spacebar or the A button, and a secondary weapon, such as a homing missile or a spread shot, is activated by pressing the Z key or the X button. The secondary weapon has a limited ammunition count, indicated by a gauge on the left side of the screen, and is replenished by collecting power-up icons dropped by destroyed enemies. The player’s craft has a single hit point; any collision with an enemy or enemy projectile results in immediate destruction and loss of one life. The game provides three lives per credit, with an additional life awarded at 10,000 points. The player can perform a short-duration dodge maneuver by double-tapping the movement key in any direction, which consumes a portion of a rechargeable energy bar displayed at the bottom of the screen. The game pauses by pressing the Escape key or the Start button. The objective is to survive each stage, defeat a stage boss at the end of each level, and accumulate the highest possible score. Score multipliers are applied for consecutive enemy kills without missing a shot.
